Rio Grande

Rio Grande.

The Rio Grande is one of the oldest tequila cocktails and can surprise as a Martini variant.

25 ml Antica Torino rosso
25 ml Finsbury 47 Gin
25 ml Don Montes blanco Tequila

Preparation: 3 ice cubes, stirred for 15 seconds (45 times).

It was not only the recipe for the Twentieth Century that first appeared in William J. Tarling’s book ‘Cadé Royal Cocktail Book’, published in London in 1937. It also contains the Rio Grande, a kind of Martini Cocktail made with gin, tequila and vermouth. Unfortunately, not much more is mentioned and the drink led a shadowy existence after this first publication. It was not included in other recipe collections. There is another recipe called Rio Grande from 1938, but that is something else.

Nevertheless, you should try the Rio Grande. We like it.

About

Hi, I'm Armin and in my spare time I want to promote bar culture as a blogger, freelance journalist and Bildungstrinker (you want to know what the latter is? Then check out "About us"). My focus is on researching the history of mixed drinks. If I have ever left out a source you know of, and you think it should be considered, I look forward to hearing about it from you to learn something new. English is not my first language, but I hope that the translated texts are easy to understand. If there is any incomprehensibility, please let me know so that I can improve it.
